The last two rounds proved to be very exciting. In the penultimate round, Elliott drew with Holness, while Porter won his game. This put both Elliott and Porter on equal number of points going into the last round. The problem for Porter was that he would be facing Pitterson, who was 1 point behind the leaders, in the final round, while Elliott would be facing Myers a relatively easier opponent. As it turned out, Porter had to settle for a draw with Pitterson, but Elliott's game was still in progress. Moreover, it appeared that Elliott would not be able to get more than the half point from Myers. In a very tense game, with both players having approximately 1 minute each, Myers managed to get a position where he could force draw with a perpetual check! Unbelievably, Myers, thinking he might be able to win, tried something. In the end, he lost on time, where the final position was actually still a draw, though it was unclear under such time pressure. To the disappointment of the crowd, there would be no play-off between Porter and Elliott, which would have happened, had Myers not done ...err..well..you fill in the blank. Elliott retains the title for another year! Congrats to 2005 Jamaica National Champion FM Warren Elliott!
